João Ramos, better known as Dondinho, struggled to earn a living as a soccer player, and Pelé grew up in poverty. He developed a talent of soccer by kicking stuffed rags trhough the streets of Bauru. Although not much is known as too how he got the name Pele, he ahs said that he acquired the nickname from his friends during his childhood. At just 15, he was able to tryout for Santos Professional Soccer team.
